Member Engagement & Sport

Connecting, supporting, and empowering our volunteer members.

Our members are at the heart of everything we do. Through Member Engagement, we connect with, support, and provide tools and services to our lifesaving clubs and our volunteer network, creating a positive experience and building strong pathways for growth.

Volunteer in Lifesaving

Lifesaving clubs rely on dedicated volunteers who step up in all kinds of ways such as patrolling the beach, coaching teams, supporting Nippers, running BBQs, or taking on leadership roles behind the scenes.

Whether you're leading a committee, mentoring young lifesavers, or helping out on weekends, every contribution strengthens the lifesaving community and helps keep our beaches safe.

There’s a role for everyone, and every effort counts. Ready to make a difference? Join your local club today.

Nipper Education Programs

Nipper Education Programs are a water safety, skills and education program that introduces children aged 5 to 14 years to lifesaving.

The program is a key initiative of the lifesaving movement, and its continuous success is vitally important to the growth and sustainability of Victoria’s lifesaving clubs.

Nippers caters for all levels of experience, skill and ability with a strong emphasis on providing a fun and worthwhile learning experience for all who get involved.

Lifesaving Sport

Lifesaving sport offers unique opportunities for volunteer lifesaving club members to develop and test their lifesaving skills in a variety of competitive and fun settings.

Our sporting athletes are more than just heroes on the starting line; they are also heroes between the flags and on the pool deck, using sport as active training for rescue-readiness, selflessly dedicating their fitness and skills to saving lives.

On top of developing skills and physical fitness, lifesaving sport is a great opportunity for participants to build friendships, camaraderie and a sense of belonging in their club and community.

Why Participation Matters

Active participation is the lifeblood of Life Saving Victoria.
It strengthens our ability to deliver patrols, respond to emergencies, and provide vital water safety education across the state. Participation creates a sense of belonging and purpose, where members of all ages can learn, lead, and contribute in ways that match their skills and interests.

When members take part in programs such as Nippers, Sport, Volunteering, and Leadership Development, they:

  • Build the skills and confidence to save lives.
  • Strengthen community connections and resilience.
  • Inspire the next generation of lifesavers.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and shared responsibility.

Every hour given, skill learned, and event supported helps us create safer aquatic environments for all Victorians.

Member Development Programs

Member Development Programs are designed to build the skills, knowledge, and leadership capacity of our members at every stage of their lifesaving journey.

These programs are a cornerstone of the lifesaving movement, ensuring our volunteers are confident, capable, and ready to meet the evolving needs of our communities.

Member Development offers opportunities for all ages, abilities, and experience levels, with a focus on creating engaging, inclusive, and meaningful learning experiences that benefit both the individual and their club.
