Life Saving Victoria’s members have access to a range of training programs that aim to develop personal skills and extend lifesaving capabilities.

Below is an overview of the programs and opportunities available to Life Saving Victoria club members. Talk to your club if you’re interested in these exciting development opportunities.

Member Development Programs

Youth Development Camps

Our three-day live-in youth development camps are designed to inspire young participants and build essential lifesaving and broader developmental skills. Each age group focuses on a variety of soft and technical skills to ensure that each child is given every opportunity to grow and express themselves in a safe environment.

U13 Youth Development Camp

The U13 development camp is an opportunity for youth members to develop their interpersonal skills, broaden their understanding of lifesaving, and access support that will help them as they progress through their lifesaving journeys.

U15 Leadership Development Camp

The U15 leadership development camp is an opportunity for youth members to develop their leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills and broaden their understanding of lifesaving. This camp supports participants to understand their own leadership style, and how their actions impact others.

U18 Leadership Development Camp

The U18 Leadership Development Camp is designed to empower our emerging lifesaving leaders by equipping them with key leadership, communication, and technical skills. Through interactive sessions, practical training and hands-on experience, participants will gain a deeper understanding of leadership roles within lifesaving and the broader surf lifesaving community.

Youth Development Programs

Our Youth Development Programs support youth members in key transitional periods of their lifesaving journey.

The programs are run to show youth members the vast array of opportunities available to them and help them to understand the variety of pathways involved in lifesaving for all interests. These programs bring together youth members from across the state and promote networking with likeminded individuals.

Our development programs include:

  • Champion Junior Lifesaver Development Day
  • Youth Symposium

Life Saving Victoria Junior Advisory Committee (LSVj)

The LSVj Advisory Committee provides a platform for youth lifesaving members to have a voice, develop programs that youth members will want to be part of, and create a sustainable future for lifesaving.

At LSV we want to know what excites our youth members about lifesaving, and what motivates and drives their passion to keep you returning to the beach.

LSVj in return will provide youth with unique development opportunities and help develop leadership and communication skills.  This gives members the opportunity to work with other likeminded, motivated and passionate lifesavers.

Senior Development Programs

At LSV, we believe in elevating our leaders by providing opportunities for further development and growth throughout their lifesaving journey.

18+ Mentor Program

Over the course of seven transformative months, you'll be paired with a mentee/mentor to work through a journey of growth and development. This program is designed to challenge you with front-line workshops, focusing on themes such as powerful communication, resilient leadership, and goal setting and you’ll gain the tools and confidence to navigate and conquer leadership challenges ahead.

Leadership Beyond the Flags

This exciting two-day live-in weekend in Melbourne Business School, will equip new leaders with the knowledge and skills to be future club leaders. As the name suggests, this program will touch on many skills which will be invaluable in multiple environments and scenarios, outside of lifesaving.

Ready to Lead

This leadership program will ignite and explore the potential of our emerging and established female leaders aged 18 years and above from lifesaving, aquatic and emergency services agencies. The aim is to assist all participants to recognise the impact they have as leaders, providing them with skills, structured sessions, and a targeted approach to support an ongoing commitment to their development.

Alumni Program

The aim of our alumni program is to establish a structured and purposeful engagement framework that strengthens involvement and recognition within our senior programs while supporting succession planning and retention efforts. We aim to strengthen alumni networks, empower succession planning and enable senior members to lead with purpose and direction in their clubs.

Victorian State Teams

The Life Saving Victoria Development Panel has the goal of developing high-performing teams to represent our state and achieve outstanding results at a national level. The intention is to compose teams of individuals with specialised expertise and complementary skills who are goal-oriented and focused on achieving clear, outstanding results. Victoria’s athletes compete across multiple disciplines, including:

  • Summer
  • RLSSA pool
  • SLSA pool
  • IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat)
  • Surfboats.

LSV is committed to fielding the best possible teams to compete at the highest levels, representing our state with pride and excellence.

Victorian Development Programs

The Aquatic Sport Development Panel has worked on a revised Athlete Development Pathway Program to provide the best opportunities to a wider group of Victorian athletes.

The Development Program provides an opportunity for those athletes who may be very close to High Performance selection and those athletes who love the sport of lifesaving. This program will focus on skills, technique and have a fitness element. This program also aims to develop the skills of all lifesaving athletes to continue throughout the pathway program to the State and National competition levels. Development Programs include:

  • Infront Development Program (Summer)
  • Infront Development Program (Winter)
