A Community-Backed Trial Bringing Lifesaving Equipment to One of Victoria’s Riskiest Beaches

Venus Bay, known for its stunning yet challenging beaches, is the location for a new trial of life-saving equipment that could save lives.

Chosen for its high-risk status, beaches No.1 to No.5 at Venus Bay are now equipped with Public Rescue Equipment stations that will help bystanders contact Triple Zero (000), provide instructions in case of an emergency, including a QR code for language support, and deliver dedicated rescue safety equipment (a rescue tube) to assist bystanders to assist in the event of a water safety incident.

On Christmas Day bystanders hit that button to alert emergency services that someone was in trouble, and four people were rescued because we were able to get to them quickly. We already know this is working.

LSV and Venus Bay Surf Life Saving Club, with the support of the Australian Government and Surf Life Saving Australia, have launched this initiative to keep our beaches safe and help prevent drownings.

The Venus Bay community have got right behind this trial, making this life-saving initiative a reality!
