19/1/26
Life Saving Victoria (LSV) will kick off its first ever Bush Nipper session in Yarrawonga, giving local children the opportunity to learn vital water safety skills.
Bush Nippers is an engaging education opportunity delivered by LSV for children aged 5 to 14.
The three-day program will cover how to spot hazards in coastal, pool and inland waterway settings, survival swim strokes, wearing a lifejacket properly, emergency response (DRSABCD), water survival strategies, board paddling and how to use safety equipment in rescue situations.
The program will run at Frank Keenan Reserve from January 20-22.
LSV is proud to partner with Moira Shire Council and a number of local community groups to deliver the program. The Yarrawonga Mulwala Rotary Club will run a sausage sizzle, Yarrawonga Yacht Club will provide coffee and morning tea, Yarrawonga Mulwala Canoeing Club will support a number of activities and local emergency services will also be part of the session.
Bush Nippers continues to go from strength to strength in the region, following the continued success of Bush Nippers sessions in Cobram that are now running for their fourth year in a row.
LSV Coordinator – Education Programs Eliza Hine said Bush Nippers provided skills and knowledge that had the potential to save lives.
“Life Saving Victoria is delighted to be delivering Bush Nippers to Yarrawonga for the first time, providing key water safety skills and knowledge and having a lot of fun while doing it,” Ms. Hine said.
“Our programs are tailored to local waterways as well as ages and abilities of the children participating, so they can develop confidence in swimming, floating and rescue techniques that are vital to ensuring they can enjoy the water safely.
